Welcome!

Welcome to the piano studio of Dr. Gideon Rubin. Gideon Rubin has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and in the Middle East, and has been teaching piano for over 15 years. He is on the faculty of the Eastern Music Festival (which takes place every July) and he is the Music Director at the Los Angeles Music and Art School (www.lamusart.org), where he was named “Teacher of the Year 2005". He has also taught as visiting professor at Pomona College and as teaching assistant at the USC Thornton School of Music. He performs and teaches private lessons in the Los Angeles area, including Hollywood, West Hollywood, the Hollywood Hills, Hancock Park, Larchmont, Fairfax, Miracle Mile, Silver Lake, Glendale, Pasadena, Studio City, North Hollywood, Sherman Oaks, and Beverly Hills.

Gideon has taught every level and variety of student including doctoral students, advanced high school students, 6-year old beginners, adult beginners, and adults who wish to continue training that they started as children. At the heart of all his teaching is the love for music and the desire to see his students achieve their goals within a positive and fun atmosphere. It is his firm belief that the study of music develops internal discipline, stage presence, physical coordination, and artistic understanding. But, most importantly, it feeds the soul! He encourages a variety of repertoire, starting with the standard classical repertoire of Bach, Beethoven, etc., and extending to popular favorites and basic blues. As a part-time composer, he encourages all his students to improvise, compose, and explore new music of contemporary composers.

He is a member of CAPMT, MTNA, and MTAC and teaches the California Certificate of Merit theory/technique/performance curriculum for those students who are interested. He has frequent students recitals, and he involves students in competitions if he feels that it will be a positive experience for them.

Dr. Rubin earned his Bachelors Degree from Harvard University, his Masters Degree from Boston University School of the Arts, and his Doctorate in Piano Performance from the USC Thornton School of Music.
